We have had 2 heaters fail in 2 of our nano reef tanks. It is inevitable, heaters simply fail and that's a given, but you have 2 options: Protection or No Protection. We went the no protection route the first 2 times...Not anymore. This thing has already saved me twice since installing it in the fall of last year. My return pump froze up due to lack of maintenance and calcium buildup. When the heater chamber went hot due to no circulation, the alarm on my phone (app) as well as the unit itself woke me up and let me know we had problems. Now granted, if we were away, I wouldn't have been able to jump up and handle the problem, but I would have known immediately something was wrong and could have a relative or friend come handle it. Rather than returning home from a vacation or something to have a serious problem. It's very easy to setup, you can dial in the temps, alarm ranges and so on. Also, this particular one will serve 2 purposes in that it will let me know if/when a problem with the heater arises, but also, it has a cooling feature, so I can setup a fan on that outlet and have it cool the tank if it becomes too hot, especially in the summer months in the more desert region of So Cal we live in. These are the same brand controllers BRS uses on their titanium heaters, so save some money and get these here. Money well spent.
