Description
A frost plug heater is an electric heater that heats the engine of a vehicle to give quicker starts and protects your engine from damage that can occur during cold weather starts. Warmed engines also deliver better fuel economy, plus improves oil flow to provide better lubrication to the engine, which reduces wear and increases engine life. The frost plug heater also cuts back on pollution as it aids in vaporization of fuel, thereby cutting back on emissions.

I’ve purchased and installed 6 of these Kat 11419 heaters: 3 Accords, 2 Odyssey’s and a CRV. They are simple to install, work marvelously and they are utterly reliable —provided you use them properly. If you run current through them in air they will burn out FAST. This type of heater hasto be in liquid when you use it or the element will overheat and destroy itself. No worries, it works by heating up liquid coolant in your vehicle and if you don’t screw things up it will ALWAYS be submerged in liquid when you plug the thing in.In the process of installing this heater you will have to dump some amount of antifreeze out and replace it after the heater is in. You will introduce some air into the system and if you don’t successfully purge that air before plugging your heater in you may burn it up. And even worse you might overheat your vehicle if you run it around without a full load of coolant. Purging the air isn’t a big deal but you have to know the procedure for your vehicle. That’s what Google is for people! Additionally don’t start your vehicle with this heater plugged in —your water pump really books and sometimes it can create a vortex of millions of little air bubbles. I will say it again: air and this style of engine heater do not go together. AIR IS BAD FOR THIS HEATER. There are a bunch of reviews on this heater from people saying it’s crap and quit working after x number of uses. Maybe a couple of those were really bad from the factory, I don’t know for sure. I do know I’m 6 for 6 and I love these things...
