Like everyone else here, I had a leaky heater core. In my car, a 1970 Opel GT, you have to remove the windshield to get the dash out, and that's the easy part! I already have a new heater core ready to go, but decided to wait until I have some other reason to remove the dash. Living in Arizona, I don't really need the heater anyway. This saved me a lot of time, and the hose fit in the limited space I had under the hood. Turns out I didn't need any of the fittings, but it was worth it to me just for the hose and clamps.
